Canoeing & Kayaking - No Permits Required

The adventure of a lifetime!

Canoe our beautiful rivers and lakes.

Your stay with us includes the option of taking a canoe ride down any of our scenic rivers: The Black River, Big Fork River, Little Fork River, or the tremendous Rainy River.

The Black River is true serenity. It is a small river but very scenic, with only several cabins on its route. While quietly paddling down stream, you may sneak a peak at ducks, birds, deer, beaver, black bear, raccoon, mink, otter, gray wolf, coyote, or fox. The water depth varies with rainfall from 1 to 6 feet with currents at low-level about five mph. Located on our property you can float down stream, a ˝ day trip to the cabin, feast on a picnic lunch, sip your favorite drink and relax. Trips from four hours to 1-1/2 days can be arranged on the Black river.

The Big Fork River is 166 miles long, 300 feet wide with depths of three to six feet with two rapids, that require portages: Little American Falls (Class III-IV) and Big Falls (Class IV-V). This river offers great fishing as well so bring your license, rod and tackle (see fishing). Drive to rustic parks, maintained by the park service including picnic tables, outhouses, and camping areas at no charge. Several “ rustic canoe only” camping areas in route also.

All of our local canoe rivers run into the mighty Rainy River bordering Canada. The border between the U.S and Canada is located in the center of the Rainy River, thus you can be in Canada and never touch Canadian soil. The Rainy River is 80 miles long and over 1/4 mile wide with water depths from 4’ to 20’ with faster currents and several rapids dangerous to canoes. Here also are parks and fantastic fishing.

Our lakes can offer some great trip options. The water depths can vary from one ft to 120 ft deep, currents are calm. Some options are available for different lakes. Storms and wind can make lake travel hazardous at times so caution, and local weather should be checked.

Unlike the BWCA and Quantico, no permits are required, giving us the chance to pick the best days for outdoor adventure. Half and multiple day trips available, including gear, shuttle and guiding services.

For trips scheduled on anything other than the Black River advance reservation will be needed

Supplies:

Bring appropriate clothing for hot days and cool nights. Canoes paddles life jackets, and camping gear, are furnished. Guided trips upon request.
