FISHING

River Sturgeon, Muskie, Northern pike, Walleye, Bass

We have North America's finest fishing opportunities with our rivers and lakes. All the rivers flow into the mighty Rainy River bordering the U.S. and Canada. You can be in Canada, without ever touching Canadian soil, just by being in your boat, ½ way across the river. The Rainy runs 80 miles long and 1/3 mile wide, with depths of 4' to 20' and currents up to 10 MPH. Just a five- minute drive gets us there!

In the spring the Rainy boasts the largest Walleye run in the world. Spring fishing for the big ones can be thrilling, with catches up to 12 pounds, not uncommon! Bring your catch home and we'll help you cook them, or at least offer some phenomenal suggestions on how two's, for the Walleye is our personal favorite.

The Rainy River also offers world- class fishing for Muskie, Northern Pike, Bass, suckers, and perch.

The rivers can give you the fishing experience of a lifetime when you hook into one of our huge Muskie, some tipping the scales at over 35 pounds!

Sturgeon are probably the most powerful fighting fish caught on hook and line with some recorded over 8ft long and weighing over 200 pounds. Anyone can hook one but getting it landed is another story. It is common to see six feet Sturgeon jump in the peaceful summer evenings.

Northern Pike are also common in the rivers and are great fun to catch for they put up a fight, and sometimes are hard to land as well not to mention the added benefit of fine cuisine. Baked, fried, broiled, cooked over the fire or pickled, they are delicious. A percentage of Northern 20 pounds or better can be caught.

Small mouth Bass in the summer and fall is a thrill of it's own. Find that HOT spot and just try to keep that line in the water! The kids love the thrill of catching fish after fish.

Our lakes on each end of Rainy River also offer some excellent fishing as well, catching the same species as listed above. Both lakes are a short 30 to 60 minute drive away. To the east, we have Rainy Lake, starting in International Falls. One half of this body of water is in Canada and one half in the U.S. adjoining Voyageurs National Park. This area has a drastic terrain change from the forests and farming country to rocks, pines and lakes. To the west we have Lake of the Woods. Starting in Baudette, this vast body of water includes 65,000 miles of shoreline, 14,000 islands, and 317,000 acres of water in Minnesota another 300,000 plus acres in Canada. We can offer a wide selection of opportunities for your fishing experience, from lakes, to rivers.

Fishermen are welcome to bring their own boat and gear. Or we can refer you to our local guides for your fishing pleasure.
